American Marksman Regionals

New shooting contest show, American Marksman, has started sending notifications to contestants that qualified for Regionals, based on their local match scores… and, in a surprising (to me) turn of events.. I’ve qualified for regionals.

I went to the first local match American Marksman had.. and shot my two strings of fire, I ended up having a couple of misfires (which count as misses in the competition).. so I didn’t think I scored well enough to qualify.  I then went back a week or so ago, and Murphy’s Law showed up.. and I had jams and failures to extract on both strings, making my score even lower than my initial attempt (hey.. it happens, I’d have booked a third attempt..but I received my qualification notice).  I did leave my .22 at the gunsmith over the weekend, just to make sure the issues I had weren’t caused by the weapon..and can be chalked up to Murphy’s Law.

So, now I need to read up on the Regional course of fire (which is posted here), and get ready to head to Byers at the end of June.  American Marksman will be providing the weapons and ammo for regionals, which is nice, since I’m a tad frustrated with my .22 at the moment..

I haven’t done a lot of rifle shooting, so I expect that portion of the regionals will be a bit more challenging.. I’m hoping I can get some rifle time in before then, just to get a little practice.

Time to practice….

NSSF Fantasy Camp Recap

Over the weekend of April 1st, I was lucky enough to be able to participate in the inaugural NSSF Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp.  It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had.

30 “campers” were able to go to Las Vegas, and get the opportunity to meet, shoot with, and learn from 6 of the top Competitive Shooters in the sport!

It didn’t matter what our skill level was, the coaches were amazingly patient while working with us.. I truly appreciate them taking the time out of their busy schedules to come hang out with us for a few days.

I put together what was supposed to be a short video thanking the NSSF, the coaches, and everyone else… that turned into me rambling for a bit about the camp.. rather than retype everything I ramble on about, I’m just linking the video:

Even the fire alarm going off in the hotel the night before the competition between the teams didn’t dampen the spirit of anyone attending.

It was an amazing opportunity, and one I would do again if given the chance (I’d take some video recording gear other than my iPhone, so I could capture more of what the coaches had to say, and review it later), I’d also find some more comfortable shoes.. lol.  My feet were sore at the end of each day at the range, but it’s never been more fun to be so sore.

Make sure you sign up at the NSSF site to be notified of the next one, and if you get the chance to go… DO!

You won’t regret it.. you’ll have a blast!

New Commitment

After attending the NSSF Shooting Sports Fantasy Camp, I’m motivated to become more committed to getting into competition shooting, at the local level, and ideally beyond!

In order to keep that motivation and commitment.. I’m going to be documenting my progress (competitions, events, etc..etc..) here, and on YouTube.

Thanks for tagging along on the journey, and feel free to provide any feedback you’ve got!
